How We Met
Kenny was organizing group hikes around DFW, and Sarah decided to join one at Cedar Ridge Nature Preserve. The picture on the right was taken on the day they met. They realized during the hike that Sarah wasn't just a fellow hiker, she was actually a teacher at the elementary school where Kenny’s sons, Preston and Carson, attended.
After meeting on the trail, Sarah and Kenny started seeing each other at school events like lunch and field day. They kept in touch and became friends, going on several more hikes together.
They eventually made things official during a trip to Williams Lake in Taos, New Mexico. Kenny somehow convinced Sarah to go camping in the snow. While it was one of the coldest moments of their lives, Kenny won over Sarah’s heart when he fell backwards into the snow and pulled her down with him. They sealed the moment with a kiss in the snowfall, under the stars by their campsite.
The Proposal
A perfect day.
Kenny secretly planned an epic proposal. They were going to fly out to Washington DC over Spring Break to hike in Shenandoah National Park. He coordinated with Sarah’s family to also be out there after he popped the question in the gorgeous scenery.
Then he caught pneumonia. Plans changed.
They were able to drive to St. Louis over Spring Break instead. Unbeknownst to Sarah, Kenny had the ring in his pocket for the entire trip, waiting for the right moment. Preston and Carson were in on the secret, and kept asking when it was going to happen.
Sarah was oblivious.
Kenny asked her to walk under the Gateway Arch, but her face was frozen cold - she made her way inside instead. At the top of the arch when the moment was right, she got motion sickness from the tiny elevator ride. No longer the right moment.
After getting back home, Kenny realized that the perfect moment would be doing what they both love: hiking. He took the family out to Benbrook Lake on a beautiful Spring day. Then Sarah answered the easiest question of her life, saying, “Yes - of course!” to his proposal.
They can’t wait to make it official and spend the rest of their lives together!
